A Call for A United Free Press

11/10/2024

By Randall Richards

United Free Press founder Kerry Murray, originally from New Zealand, residing in the UK, says, “If you can help find the funding, let’s get a team, collaborate, and run with it! Murray, a successful businessman and professional photographer has a vision to help solve the mainstream press problem which he sees as having a lack of ethics, too much censorship and a parroting of agendas.

His vision has been to create an ethical worldwide press association. In fact, he’s already done it – United Free Press which had a stunning web presence and a roster of serious freedom journalists who were bound by a code of ethics. Murray’s execution of his vision has been brilliant.  But like many in the freedom movement, his efforts were all volunteer based. With a family to feed, and work commitments, and UFP being a solo effort, Murray has not been able to maintain the effort and expenses to keep the website, membership cards and membership lists running.

I used to work for United Press International in my twenties, and I see UFP as a great uniting alternative to the bought-off press of days gone by. In fact, if you put on your ”long-range vision glasses”, you can see, like I do, a possibility of UFP having a huge impact on not only our freedom press, but the world, for generations to come. I believe in Kerry’s vision and how he’s created UFP thus far. (Also at the time of this writing, the UFP website’s archive (hosted by what’s commonly called The Wayback Machine) is temporarily offline as well due to maintenance down, but I’m including Currently the website is offline and there’s work to do. I’m writing this to create interest with the freedom press, and a reach-out to potential funders to get that website up and running again including all aspects of UFP, and more. There has already been some positive response here in New Zealand, and from our own NZ Media Collective members. If you’d like more info on UFP or how to donate, get in touch: randall@mtnsprit.org

Reality Check Radio: Off-Aire, Watch Full Story

12/04/2024

Our favorite* New Zealand radio station is off-air. It’s time we consider what it will look like without RCR in our daily lives. I know I’ve taken the online streaming station a bit for granted financially. I’m still working on plans to have a micro FM transmitter broadcasting from here at Mountain Spirit, so we can’t them be off the air.

I’ve pulled a quote from friend Roy Champtaloup who makes the plea better than I:
RCR is an absolute treasure trove of important, fascinating facts via the free speech of its excellent guests. It is not mainstream lies that hoodwinks & scares our beautiful trusting population into submission and compliance. Please donate & support this outstanding vital media organisation today. I respectfully recommend committing to a monthly amount. Do you agree access to all these amazing real ‘experts’ and their truthful facts is worth at least $1/day ($30/month)? .. maybe $2/day ($60/month) maybe not even the cost of a coffee a day $5 … ie $150/month) ? or even more? Please contribute whatever you can …. starting now. We need to keep free speech alive. Our grandchildren are depending on us. We can’t let them down.

Author’s Note: * Yeah, I know. I have to use it once in a while. “Favourite” is still cool, but I am a Yankee too.

We’ve Gone Ad Free

16/02/2011

Never Too Late to Stop Ads

We’ve been meaning to do it, but finally got around to it today. No more ads on this blog. In the spirit of being a nonprofit (Mountain Spirit Institute is indeed a non-profit) we thought this would be the better route. As editor, the ads never showed up on my screen, but I assume they were there. It was easy to put this task on the back burner because I never saw one. I hope they weren’t advertising for hosiery or wellness pills. I assume the revenue went to wordpress.com, as well is should. They’re a great company.  We’ll be paying for the privilege of an ad-free blog, and hope you’ll like it. Let us know what you think. And while you’re at it, let us know if you saw any hosiery ads or the like.
Enjoy,
R. Richards
PS: Your donations,  for this blog, or for helping to further our organizational mission is always welcome. You can donate here.

Sunapee/Outward Bound Program:New Webpage

MSI's New Webpage on Sunapee's OB Program

MSI's New Webpage on Sunapee's OB Program

The MSI/Sunapee High School/Outward Bound Scholarship Program, now in it’s fourth year gets a new webpage. There is a host of information: past recipients, donors, an overview and goals of the the program and where to find out more. The program is gaining some traction both with students, the community and with Outward Bound’s scholarship department.  Thanks to former Recruiter and Scholarship coordinator Charlie Reade who helped MSI’s Executive Director R. Richards set up the program, a number of students have had a trip of a life time.

On the webpage are pics from Brian Baily’s Rock/Backpacking course in Colorado, and Hanna Baade’s sea kayaking program on the coast of Maine. Baade was the first recipient of the scholarship which was first supported by Sugar River Bank. More recently, Rotary International (New London, NH) and other organizations are aiding the effort.

The program is one of MSI’s first “service projects”, aimed at giving back to the community in which MSI is incorporated, and the director’s hometown. In all aspects of MSI, we incorporate a service component, whether it be a board meeting, a program to Peru or at the administration level. Again this inspiration comes from Outward Bound and Kurt Hahn in the first place.
